The creation of "Pride" was inspired by a deeply personal connection I've always felt towards lions. Ever since I was a child, these majestic creatures have captivated me with their strength, dignity, and the complex social bonds they share within their prides. I remember reading endlessly about their habitats, marveling at their roles as protectors and leaders, and being moved by the profound sense of family and community they embody. This fascination grew into a lifelong reverence, guiding me to explore the parallels between their world and ours.
One particularly transformative experience was a journey I took to Africa, where I had the privilege of observing a pride of lions in their natural habitat. Witnessing their interactions, the silent communication, and the palpable bonds they shared left an indelible mark on me. It was a moment of pure connection, a realization that despite the vast differences between our worlds, there existed a universal language of respect, love, and survival. This experience became a wellspring of inspiration for my art.
"Pride" is more than just a portrayal of lions in an urban setting; it's a tribute to the lessons they've taught me about strength in unity, the beauty of natural leadership, and the importance of protecting those we call family. By placing these regal creatures in the shadows of a Dumbo, Brooklyn alleyway, I sought to bridge the gap between their world and ours, highlighting the inherent nobility and resilience we all share. This piece is a reflection of my journey with these magnificent animals, a journey that continues to inspire and shape my perspective on life and art.
